SUMMARY:A Bittersweet History: The Role of Chocolate in 18th Century New England
DESCRIPTION:“A Bittersweet History: The Role of Chocolate in 18th Century New England.” \n Join the Waltham Museum for an interactive experience to learn about the history and local production of colonial chocolate!  The location of Waltham and its proximity to the mills along the Charles River helped industry thrive in the region.  In this discussion\, historian Michele Gabrielson will explain how this delectable treat played a role in the lives of colonial New Englanders and how the Bemis Family had a direct link to chocolate.  \nMichele Gabrielson is a history teacher who frequently uses living history techniques in the classroom to bring the subject material alive for her middle school students. When she is not teaching in the classroom\, Michele can be found leading tours at historic sites in the greater Boston area\, or specializing in interpreting the history of colonial women printers\, chocolate makers\, and loyalist refugees.   \nOur free event will take place on Saturday\, February 10\, 2024\, from 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM at 25 Lexington St. Waltham. Seats are limited\, so signup by calling 781-893-9020 or emailing info@walthammuseum.org with name\, phone# & email\, and number of participants. Parking available in the Public Parking Garage directly across from the Waltham Museum. \nJoin us at the Waltham Museum for the 4th in our Saturday Social Series! \nThis program is supported in part by a grant from the Waltham Cultural Council\, a local agency which is supported by the Mass Cultural Council\, a state agency.
