SUMMARY:Winter Sowing of New England Pollinator Plants
DESCRIPTION:Are you passionate about supporting local pollinators\, creating a vibrant ecosystem in your own backyard\, or just having some native plants that you can grow in large flower pots or barrels?  Then this event is perfect for you!  \nHave you ever sowed seeds in winter\, which is what many perennial plants need to germinate in spring?  If not\, then attend this event and get “pollinated” with techniques to grow such plants. \nWaltham Garden Club’s Nancy Eyster-Smith will introduce you to New England native plant species that grow well in gardens and in large flower pots and will guide you through the process of winter sowing\, a technique that gives perennial native seeds the conditions needed for germination. \nNancy will provide seeds of white foxglove beardtongue\, orange butterfly milkweed\, purple New England aster\, and red columbine (L-> R above).  All are New England natives that attract a variety of pollinators including bees\, butterflies\, and hummingbirds. \nItems to bring if you can: rinsed & dry plastic gallon milk jugs\, water mister spray bottle\, strong bag to carry planted jugs home\, and your questions.  Provided will be choice of 4 seeds options\, potting mix\, markers/pencils & plant labels\, tape\, and additional milk jugs.  \nOur free event will take place on Saturday\, January 20\, 2024\, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at 25 Lexington St. Waltham. Seats are limited to 25\, so signup by calling 781-893-9020 or emailing info@walthammuseum.org with name\, phone # & email\, and number of participants. Parking available in the Public Parking Garage directly across from the Waltham Museum.  \nDon’t miss out on this opportunity to connect with fellow nature enthusiasts and gain valuable insights into creating a pollinator-friendly environment.  Let’s sow the seeds of a brighter future for our beloved pollinators! 🌺🐝 \nJoin us at the Waltham Museum for the 3rd in our Saturday Social Series!! \nThis program is supported in part by a grant from the Waltham Cultural Council\, a local agency which is supported by the Mass Cultural Council\, a state agency.
